These 28 short stories are from Locomotive Engineer's Journal of 1918.  They are short works of about 5 to 15 minutes-worth of reading time, perfect for coffee breaks or something old-timers read on short train trips. The writers worked for a syndicate -- I think it was United Press, or similar -- and their stories appeared in small-town newspapers across the US in the early 20th Century.  Subject matter ranges from romance to detective pulp fiction.  The bonus selection is from one of those newspapers.  Most of the works appear as they do on GoogleBooks' optical-scanned txt versions, so typos occasionally pop up.
